I am currently searching for a screensaver presumably from the late 90s. The screensaver consisted of several (rather crudely rendered) paintings. I can remember two of the paintings: one was of a. Race through an 80's-style video arcade! Joystick Johnny is a marathon of 80's-style minigames set in an authentic arcade atmosphere. Racing against the clock, Johnny literally jumps into classic game parodies like Hogger, Pizzaroids, and Moonwalk Patrol to chase down the Video Virus, who transforms into a different character for each game it possesses.

Johnny Castaway is a screensaver released in 1992 by Sierra On-Line/Dynamix, and marketed under the Screen Antics brand as 'the world's first story-telling screen saver'.

The screensaver depicts a man, Johnny Castaway, stranded on a very small island with a single palm tree. It follows a story which is slowly revealed through time. It takes many days to catch on to the story. While Johnny fishes, builds sand castles, and jogs on a regular basis, other events are seen less frequently, such as a mermaid or Lilliputian pirates coming to the island, or a seagull swooping down to steal his shorts while he is bathing. Much like the castaways of Gilligan's Island, Johnny repeatedly comes close to being rescued, but ultimately remains on the island as a result of various unfortunate accidents.

'Johnny Castaway' includes Easter eggs for a number of United States holidays such as Halloween, Christmas and Independence Day. During these holidays, the scenes are played out as usual except for some detail representing that holiday or event. During the last week of the year, for example, the palm tree will sport a 'Happy New Year' banner, and on Halloween a jack-o'-lantern can be seen in the sand. The screensaver can be manipulated into showing these features by adjusting the computer clock to correspond with the date of the event.

Serial sapphire plugins. The Johnny Castaway screensaver was distributed on a 3½-inch floppy disk and required a computer with a 386SX processor and Windows 3.1 as its operating system. Today, it is widely available on the internet, but as it relies on outdated 16-bit software components, it will only work on 32-bit versions of the Microsoft Windows operating system, which still support 16-bit applications, although workarounds exist for getting the screensaver to run on Windows 64-bit, Mac OS X and Linux.

Johnny Castaway is the world's first story-telling, screen saver cartoon. Sure, there are lots of screen savers out there, but you can only watch fish and flying toasters for so long. Cast off with Johnny and sail into an ocean of off-the-wall gags and knock-out animations!

Every time you take a break, Johnny and his cast launch into hundreds of hilarious situations. Will Johnny score with the tantalizing mermaid? Can our desert island hero dodge the jaws of a castaway-eating shark? Will that passing party boat toss Johnny a line or a Lite?

This is one of the most entertaining screensavers I've come across. Watch a castaway Johnny perform amusing antics while he struggles for daily survival on a tiny island. The program has numerous scripts that are randomized every time, and special skits for special days such as Christmas and New Year's Eve. Watching Johnny is always fun, interesting, and definitely more fun than playing an average game :) Sometime in 1995, Sierra released the program as freeware, to cheers of Johnny's fans worldwide :)

Johnny Castaway is not really a game but a screensaver but what a screensaver! At least to me it seems like a game because the entertainment is as good as a game. In the screensaver you will follow Johnny Castaway that has been left on a desert Island and no, the island is not as big as the one Robinson Crusoe was left one. It is more like a few meters to each site.

Because of the size of the island it just makes all the events that happens even more impressive because there aren't any limits to what the poor Johnny Castaway has to go through including a seagull that steals his things, falling in love with a mermaid, being attacked by pirates and even managing to escape from the island just to find himself at the island not long after the successful escape.

This screensaver is really great entertainment and there are tons of hours of random events and don't forget that certain special events are included as well such as Christmas and many more things. Johnny Castaway is one hell of an idea.
