Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the licensed soundtrack to the 1990 New Line Cinema film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.It was released by SBK Records and Geffen Records on March 16, 1990. The collection is made up mostly of hip-hop and new jack swing styled tracks with several film score cues at the end. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles became the highest-grossing independent film at the time, the ninth-highest-grossing film worldwide of 1990, and the highest-grossing film in the series until the 2014 reboot. It was followed by two sequels, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze (1991) and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III (1993).

Notes[edit]

  • Turtle Power was re-released on the third Ninja Turtles soundtrack.
  • Both parts of Splinter's Tale differ from what was heard in the film.
    • Part I Splinter pauses after he says '..she persuaded Yoshi to flee with me to America' and picks up after an instrumental interlude with 'But Saki vowed vengeance..'.
    • Part II features more dialog from the newly mutated infant turtles with a different voice actor.
  • Turtle Rhapsody does not feature any of Raphael's dialog from the film.
  • When the soundtrack was released on cassette, the cassette was available in red, blue, orange, and purple - the four mask colors of the Turtles. Subsequent releases were in black.
  • The soundtrack came with a sticker with art by Peter Laird of the turtles on a rooftop preparing to fight the Foot Soldiers that have them completely surrounded. This was eventually used as the cover art for both the comic book adaptation and the Game Boy game Fall of the Foot Clan. Both were released in 1990.
  • A lyric in Turtle Power states Raphael as the leader, as opposed to Leonardo whom the 1987 cartoon theme song attributes the position to.
  • Shredder's Suite was used by Shredder it was a 'darker version' of the Batman Theme
  • in the unreleased soundtrack for the album there was an unreleased track called Foot Clan Charge

The atmosphere of this collection is much more kid friendly than the previous album. Songs like 'This World' and 'Back to School' feature various virtuous themes in their lyrics such as world peace, staying in school, and environmentalism. The most recognizable song in this collection is Vanilla Ice's song 'Ninja Rap,' which he performed in the film.
